Colts edged 10-7 at home by Skyline
REDWOOD CITY — Cañada College rallied for three runs in the ninth inning but fell short in a 10-7 loss to Skyline College on Thursday. The setback dropped the Colts to 15-21 overall and 7-10 in Coast Conference North Division play.
After falling behind early, Cañada tied up the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Stone Daniel-Savage and an RBI single by Patrick Sanchez. But Skyline scored in two runs in the third, a single run in the fifth, and blew the game open with a four-run seventh-inning that pushed the lead to 9-3.
The Colts showed life in the ninth against Skyline closer Declan Mendel. Dylan Philibosian doubled home Junior Malan to make it 10-5, then Ryan DeMartino launched a two-run home run to pull within 10-7. Cañada could not extend the rally further.
DeMartino finished 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Sanchez went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Philibosian, Malan and Isaiah Herrera each contributed hits in the comeback attempt.
Ryan Kinoshita started for the Colts and took the loss, giving up five runs — three earned — on eight hits over five innings. Nicolas Lautz tossed a scoreless ninth in relief.
The Colts will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Friday (Apr. 17) when they host City College of San Francisco in a 2:30 p.m. Coast North game.
