Colts earn series win with 13-9 victory over De Anza
REDWOOD CITY — Cañada College scored five runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to erase a four-run deficit and defeat visiting De Anza College 13-9 on Saturday to close out a three-game Coast Conference North Division series.
The Colts took the series, winning two of the three contests. Cañada won the opener 11-4 at De Anza on Tuesday before falling 9-5 at home in Game 2 on Thursday.
On Saturday, Cole Leschak went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, including a two-run home run in the first inning that gave Cañada an early lead. Joseph Prieto was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, adding a solo home run in the eighth. Tim Selway drove in three runs on two hits, highlighted by a three-run double in the fifth that put the Colts ahead for good.
De Anza built its 6-2 advantage on a two-run home run by Keanu Hennings in the fourth and run-scoring singles by Joe Dyer and Mason Manglicmot in the third.
Cañada sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth, with Selway's double the decisive blow. The Colts followed with five more runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Noah Garcia, an RBI single by Leschak, a two-run single by Jayden Salgado and an unearned run on a pitching error, extending the lead to 12-7.
De Anza's Logan Vieira hit solo home runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull within three, but Prieto's homer in the bottom of the eighth restored a four-run cushion.
Ryan Kinoshita earned the win, allowing three earned runs over three innings of relief. Noah Wright closed out the final two innings, striking out three, for the save. Starter Noah Whittaker allowed four runs in three innings.
